Everyone else can fall in love and live happily ever after, but Xavier Owens doesn’t plan on doing the same. With a successful business, plenty of friends, and no shortage of willing bed partners, he always thought he had everything he needed. The only thing missing in his life is someone to share his kink, but that’s not going to happen. The last time Xavier let someone into that part of his life left him with a bruised ego and a broken heart. While both have long since mended, he’s not interested in falling in love again. Fate has other plans in the form of sweet and shy Oliver Nice. There’s something about the man that draws Xavier to him like a moth to a flame. Hopefully, this time he won’t get burned. This is a 78K word novel with no cheating and a guaranteed HEA. Although it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

Exactly what I was hoping for!

I have read (and loved) each of the previous Nice Ink books, and this was no exception. I wasn’t sure what X and Oliver’s story would involve, and I wasn’t expecting some of the twists in the book, but they just made the story even better. The simple joy of the characters in each other was heartwarming, especially in these uncertain times. I received an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Great Read

The Binding was a good read by Samantha Jacobey. Merideth is the daughter of a wealthy politician. Her mother is murdered and she finds out that she is next. Rider is ex-military who is placed in charge of protecting Meri. Meri and Rider find her mother’s old book to find out who is after her and why. I enjoyed reading Meri and Rider’s story and can’t wait to read more by Samantha Jacobey.

The Wicked Awakened (Unexpected Magic Book 2)

A five-hundred-year-old witch wants to steal Sarah’s body

Morcant and Blake Korrigan own a little shop of horrors, where witches congregate and people ending up dead isn’t rare. When Karen Hiltzman joins their coven, she has no idea what she’s getting into. Drawn in, the group convinces her to recruit her best friend, Sarah Matthews, after discovering that she bears a very special birthmark; one that indicates she’s the girl they’ve been waiting for.

Morcant is eager to reincarnate a witch put to death by an angry mob five-hundred-years prior, and unleashes a spell; a dark and sinister curse. His ritual transforms Sarah’s body and will bring Brenna back to life when it’s completed.

Blake wants to help Sarah stop him; but will he be strong enough to defeat his elder sibling, and if he does… will he let her go when it’s done?

(MA – 18+: contains violence, sexual content, and strong language)

Original, plenty of twists and turns.

Samantha Jacobey’s, The Wicked Awakened, is a perfect Halloween read.

Sarah and her childhood best friend, Karen, are off to college. Unlike Karen, Sarah is a dedicated student. Karen has other interests.

I loved the depiction of the two childhood friends and their relationship. I thought the author did an excellent job of portraying the complex ties that bonds friends and how it can mask competing impulses.

In high school, both girls shared an interest in witchcraft. Karen’s ties went deeper than Sarah knew.

Karen is involved with a dangerous coven, who are interested in recruiting Sarah.

Things go bump in the night, creative and original twists. Stories involving the occult. Some of the twists and turns, I didn’t see coming.

There had to be something Kendra Atkins was missing in life, and Charles Ford knew it was nothing but him. The only thing he had to do was convince her that he was all she would ever need and that he felt that way since the day the met ten years prior, hours before she became his first lover… when he was twenty-two. In his twenty-second year of life, Charles Ford was still a virgin. Like any other man, including his identical twin, he wanted sex, but he wanted his first time to mean something other than getting inside a woman’s body. By the time she was twenty, Kendra had sex with two men and not with outstanding results. It was just about experience; wanting to see what the deal was about. She could take it or leave it especially since the men she slept with only wanted what her body had to offer. Kendra has never been in a relationship, and after her disastrous sexual encounters, she decided never to exchange personal info with the next man, any man, she slept with. On a beach in Florida, Kendra and Charles meet, and Kendra takes Charles’ virginity, and all they know of one another is the nicknames they agreed to call one another: ‘Honey’ and ‘Babe.’ No other names, no numbers, and no idea how to reach one another, just as Kendra wanted it. She wanted that as much as she would regret that decision later, specifically 10 years later when Kendra and Charles reconnect… and she has no idea who he is or what she was to him.

Squirrelly loves to play but doesn’t like gathering acorns for the winter. – Squirrelly by Mary Clark Dalton

Squirrelly loved to play. In fact, there wasn’t a squirrel around who knew more acorn games than he did. He loved to make all the other squirrels laugh, and that he did time after time. All his friends would say, “Squirrelly, you’re the funniest squirrel around!” What he didn’t like though was working to store up for winter. ‘I have plenty of time,’ he would say when his father would warn him winter was coming soon.

WARNING  FOR 18+ ONLY

THE G.O.D.S SERIES MUST BE READ IN ORDER

November 12, 2052: Earth has lost two-thirds of its population to the Great War. Many more lives have been lost to earthquakes, the Clover Virus, and the Death Plague. Years later, survivors are clumped into factions. Two of those factions—the Brotherhood and the Guild Faction—have battled over medical supplies and food for years. The fight is coming to a head as manpower dwindles and the struggle becomes one to gain numbers, even if said numbers are children…
Griffin Storm, an albino man kidnapped and dragged into the Brotherhood, has transformed into a G.O.D., a Genetically enhanced Omni-dimensional being. Two weeks in the brig, and Griffin’s released after it’s determined that he’s learned to control most of his god-like abilities. His abilities have grown almost as much as his love for Tassta Vinetti and his unfortunate blood lust. His bond with Tassta’s twin brother, Penn, has grown as well and is cemented in secrets.
Soon after his release, Griffin’s told that Guild agents and the notorious Trips (super-agents of the Guild) are in the Underground. He must now test his abilities to save the abandoned children that live there. Will Griffin rescue the children of the Underground from a tragic end? Will Tassta and Griffin’s love survive such turmoil? Can a G.O.D. forgive himself when death and destruction follow his every move? Read Blood Phase, the gripping second book in the G.O.D.s Series!

Awesome
An awesome follow up to Blood Master: Book 1 of The G.O.D.s Series

Blood Phase follows on seamlessly from book one, and we rejoin Griffin, Tassta, Lerin and all, in the continuing story.
Once again the characters are well-fleshed out and have their own personalities, and are like friends I’ve known for years. I feel their love, fear, confusion, frustration, and sorrow, and my heart goes out to them.
The descriptive writing draws you in and keeps you there through all the twists, turns, and action, and doesn’t let go until you turn the last page.
I am eager to read the next book and discover what happens next.

“Dead Men Don’t Swing is Karen Vaughan’s bawdy, comedic take on amateur sleuthing.” – Dead Men Don’t Swing (Laura & Gerry Mystery #4) by Karen Vaughan

#COZIES #MYSTERY, #LAURAANDGERRY, #SHERLOCK/HOLMES

Laura and Gerry are at it again. Death finds them close to home when a tenant is found in the dumpster behind their apartment building. Laura is thrust into the “who killed Denny?” mystery while she does battle with a tenant and dodges a school janitor. The life of a college student is never boring, but she wishes it would be!
Dead Men Don’t Swing is a biting, funny, deliciously bawdy and fast-paced murder mystery in which “death by sexual misadventure and a wayward poisonous snake” (among other things) make for pure entertainment gold.”

SKY08

The “corpse magnet” is back!

Dead Men Don’t Swing is Karen Vaughan’s bawdy, comedic take on amateur sleuthing. It’s book four in her Laura & Gerry Mystery series. Lots of detective lingo is delivered with wit and sarcasm by the protagonist, Laura. That’s not surprising if you’ve read Vaughan’s previous books in the series, and given the fact that the author has done a bit of stand-up comedy. In this book, Laura and her husband Gerry are back dealing with another murder investigation since, as Laura explains, she’s a ‘corpse magnet.’ This time a dead body turns up in a dumpster at the apartment complex where Laura and Gerry are managers, having fallen to his death from the balcony above. Not likely an accident—the guy is wearing boxer shorts and sporting a tricked-out stiletto in his forehead. Oh yeah, he’s missing some sensitive body parts—yikes!Things are not as they seem in this suburban Canadian apartment complex. It turns out there’s a whole lot of hanky-panky going on in this mid-rise Peyton Place, some of it pretty kinky stuff, too. There’s no shortage of pervs and perps on any floor, in addition to the ever-annoying, tenant-from-hell, Stella. As I type the name, I hear Marlon Brando screaming it at the top of his lungs in A Streetcar Named Desire. And, speaking of movies, the photographer played by Jimmy Stewart in Hitchcock’s Rear Window, would have been hard-pressed to know where to shoot first with all the action going on in this complex!
