The stakes were very high but Martin thought in time he could change her mind but as the years passed the only thing that changed was Elaine. She became withdrawn and uneasy and finally when things got out of hand and Martin couldn’t control anything that happened it was a downward spiral and everything they had worked to achieve began to crumble.
Could Martin save his wife from herself? Would Elaine let that happen?

I can usually tell when a book is written this way because the dialogue and characters are so strong that you can actually picture the novel taking place in front of you. This is certainly a writing strength that this author possesses, which makes me excited for future work.
When it comes to the story, I really enjoyed the plot very much. I don’t want to divulge too many details, but you will certainly want to read this book all of the way through. Some of the characters are a bit difficult to figure out, but that makes the story a lot more interesting in my eyes. I think, it tackles some lessons in life that many face, but won’t cause you to spend a weekend crying over the ending if you plan on reading this in public.One person found this helpful

A Perfect Read Just in Time for Halloween
It’s October and almost every book club I am involved with is buzzing about horror and paranormal books, and it is fun for those of us who aren’t hardcore PNR and horror fans. I’ve indulged in several books this month that fall outside of my normal go-to genres, but I think Samantha Jacobey’s The Wicked Awakened has been the most enjoyable.
Sarah and her childhood best friend Karen are off to college, living together with several other students, but growing apart as Sarah is dedicated to her studies and Karen has, well, different priorities. I was immediately drawn to the relationship between these two. So many childhood friendships struggle to continue on into adulthood, and Ms. Jacobey does an excellent job of conveying those stresses and strains girls go through at this time in their lives. Then there is what proves to become the heart of the story, in their high school years both girls had been curious about witchcraft. I grew up in an area that was very open to Wiccan and other alternative types of religions, so most of my friends went through some curiosity about it at some time during their teens – Sarah’s thoughts that Karen hadn’t taken any genuine interest in it hit a relatable place to me.
The story gets deeper into the evil coven Karen has found herself mixed up in and focuses on recruiting Sarah. The storylines, and “haunting” changes Sarah goes through and the experiences she has are very creative and original twists on stories involving the occult. I was pleasantly surprised to be completely taken off guard by a number of different twists and turns the plot took along the way.
Underlying all of it, there is a sweet romance building (maybe upon a twisted start, but nevertheless. ..) and a tale of true friendship and the extent one will go to for a friend in need.
For mature, over 18, audiences only for explicit sexual situations and implied violence. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal romance, those looking for a twisted thriller with supernatural undertones, and my absolute highest recommendation for anyone seeking a Halloween read.

An excellent book
This book truly touched my heart and made me cry in some spots and cheer in others. To me, this is a must-read book. I appreciate the author for having the guts to write a book on such a sensitive subject.
From Book 2: When his best friend decided to join the Army after high school graduation, there was no question Joel would join too. Best friends since kindergarten, the two of them did everything together, and this was no different. A routine mission changed their lives forever. Slade ended up paralyzed while Joel lost his leg. Joel never expected to live with one leg, but he wasn’t going to let it break him. Like he did with everything else, he adapted, and he accepted that he was never going to find love. Women might want to sleep with a war hero, but they sure as hell don’t want to live with and take care of one. That theory proves true until Courtney comes along. Beautiful, independent Courtney with her wicked sense of humor is the perfect woman for Joel. All he has to do is trust her enough to accept that he doesn’t have to stand on his own anymore.

Edmisten has a wonderful gift!
I love how Trish Edmisten brings her characters to life and puts them in realistic situations. This is the second book I’ve read by her.
Joel is self-conscience about his missing leg, but his best friend, Slade, is paralyzed and will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. They joke and tease each other but when the PTSD hits they’re there for each other.
Then Joel meets Courtney and finds he’s falling in love but has his reservations.
I couldn’t put this marvelous book down!

One of the main characters, Slade, was introduced in the previous books, but Mac is a new character. Slade is in a wheelchair due to an injury suffered while in the Army and he also suffers from PTSD and has terrible nightmares. Because of this, he doesn’t believe he will ever find anyone that could love him. But then he meets Mac and starts to have hope that he too can find happiness. From the start, Mac is attracted to Slade and wants to be part of his life, but Slade worries she won’t be able to be with him once she realizes the difficulties she will face if they are in a relationship together. Will Slade overcome his fears or will he push Mac away?
From Book 4: Being born blind, Ken has always lived a sheltered life, thanks to his overprotective mother and older sisters. If it wasn’t for his best friend, Stone, he’d never have any kind of freedom, let alone a life. Twenty-one years old and still living at home, Ken is ready to be independent. When he moves into his own apartment and meets his new neighbor, Cassandra, he knows he’s made the right decision. Ken wants Cassandra, and the feeling seems to be mutual, but he’s worried. Trish Edmisten’s New Beginnings series is my absolute favorite and was looking forward to this to be released ever since I read the preview for Ken’s story and saw him in other books. I preordered it the second it went up and was beyond excited to see it in my library this morning.
THIS BOOK AND THIS SERIES. I love them so much. They’re so realistic and the dialogue feels authentic and natural and every conversation they have isn’t some poetic monologue. The interpersonal relationships are so REAL and wonderful. And the characters are honest and insightful and I want to be their friends/feel like I am.
I’ve been SO excited for Stone’s story since I started the series and this book made me even more excited and fall more in love with Joss.

The only thing i dislike about this series is the cover-art. I almost passed by this series because of it, I’m such a “judge a book by it’s cover” person but I’m so glad I got pulled in by the book descriptions because this series is SO GOOOOOD
