Wow, what an adventure! ~ Cross-Ties by Carolyn Bowen

Leah was a rebel. She chose to live her life outside the constraints of 19th century English society. She rebuked any parental control and choose to decide her own fate. From England to the Caribbean and then frontier America, she was loved by family and friends yet still had enemies. Sailing the seas with pirates lurking about helped chisel her character as she created a life of her own near the sea.

Explore the scenic countries with Leah and learn of the native cultures and taste their delicacies. As a mixed race female, she placed prejudices under her feet and learned to recognize and accept love even if it was against the law.

Wow, what an adventure! Admittedly, I’m usually not a big fan of these kinds of books (I tend to stick to the sci-fi and romance genres) but I decided to give “Cross-Ties” a chance and go into the read with an open mind, and I must say that it turned out to be a great decision. I could see early on, within the first few chapters, that the author is truly talented when it comes to weaving words into stories. The prose flows in a very smooth manner while conveying everything in very vivid way – I personally found it easy to visualize many of the scenes and also empathize and understand the feelings of Leah, the protagonist. I highly recommend ‘Cross-Ties’ to readers looking for a genuinely immersive and adventurous read. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future releases by Carolyn M. Bowen.

HOT SUMMER ROMANCE

January 19, 2012Format: Paperback|Verified PurchaseINDIAN SUMMER
It is 1739 in pre-revolutionary America. Gabriella Deza is only fifteen years old but is about to be swept in to the world of romance and intrigue. It covers all the societal norms of the times and the political climate including spies and espionage. Indian summer is a whirl wind ride and adventure at every page turn. Gabriella is caught between two men at the turning point of American history.
All this is brought together by Dellani Oakes, a consummate author of romance, sci fi , and crime fiction. This is Ms. Oakes first shot at historical romance, but this reader is convinced that she has found a niche in the genre. I look forward to future stories like Indian Summer. I give this five flamenco dances.

Voted No. 2 Goodreads Listopia's "Scotland the Brave and then some." HIGHLAND LIGHT CHERIME MACFARLANE!

HIGHLAND LIGHT is a historical romance set in 1308 during the Scottish war for independence.
A bargain made of desperation ...

Orphaned at a young age and raised by warriors, Gideon is more adept with weapons of war than with women. When a bargain is made to marry him off to the daughter of the MacGrough clan, he finally has the chance to have everything he’s ever wanted—a family of his own.

Men only want Ailene MacGrough for her dowry and lands, not her heart. When her father arranges her marriage to a nameless warrior she has never met, Ailene is certain he will be like all the others—motivated by greed. He will prove her wrong.
Let the games begin.

A Great Start to a Series!

Cherime MacFarlane's first book in the MacGrough Clan series, "Highland Light," is a promising start to a rather prolific looking saga.

MacFarlane's characters were interesting, each with their own unique personalities and ways of approaching situations. The twists and turns in the story kept one wanting to know what would happen next.

What I really appreciated was how much of the Scottish culture was accurately portrayed in this book (right down to a glossary of Scottish cultural terms and their meaning). It really lent a sense of authenticity to what one reads on the page.

Overall, this was a great read to just sit and sink into for a while. Fans of the show "Monarch of the Glen," will appreciate a lot of facets about this book.

“Well-written with great character development. Highly Recommended.” HIGHLAND LIGHT BY CHERIME MACFARLANE

“This is a richly detailed historical romance. The life and times of the early fourteenth century Scottish Highlands along with religious persecution makes a stunning backdrop for this wonderful tale. Well-written with great character development. Highly Recommended.”
“The romance between the young teenagers is about a couple who are in the midst of their raging hormones and the devotion they feel to each other. Their love and the surrounding war provide enough romance and adventure to give the reader a nice mix of action and emotionally charged love scenes to please those looking for the best of both worlds.”
“Oh. My. Days...! I would like to call Highland Light a romance, but it is so much more than that. It is an epic story about innocent young love, set in the backdrop of war. MacFarlane did a staggering job of bringing 14th Century Scotland back to life, and her attention to detail must be commended.”

Ailene: I'm nae a beauty, nae all honey and cream. There is tha glen and as small as tha holding is a few offered for me. I must wed but there is yet a chance for me tae find a man who will appreciate my talents. Robert The Bruce has had a treasure drop in his lap. Knights Templar fleeing Philip of France asked for sanctuary here. They will be disbursed within his supporters by marrying women like me. I thought any of them might do until I caught sight of tha young one.
Gideon: I know nothing other than weapons and war. All who accompanied the Master of the Temple here must wed a clanswoman. I've no choice. 'Tis all or none. I agreed and will marry the woman whoever she may be.
