What a great read! The suspenseful plot and compelling characters pulled me along for a deeply entertaining reading experience. Ms. Snider really hit the nail on the head with her understanding of what it's like when decent people find themselves thrust into a fight for survival against a destructive psychopath. I loved getting to know characters I could identify with, as they are faced with impossibly scary situations. It reminds us that even though we may be loving and caring in our daily personalities, we all have the ability to source our deep-seated survival instincts in order to save ourselves. The characters in this book needed every bit of that instinct to save themselves. (You can't always look to the police when someone is truly out to get you.) What I also found satisfying was that in addition to being a first-class crime thriller, the relationship subplot grounded it and made the outcome count. It showed how good, wounded people can begin to re-engage in life when their paths cross with the right person.
