Witchwoods Second Edition by Gary D. Henry
So, here's the thing...I read the first edition of Witchwoods years ago and loved it. I thought I was prepared. I was totally not prepared! I saw it coming, I swear I did, but I still jumped and cuddled like a cat. I was intrigued and just kept turning pages. What a joy to read a story that keeps me this involved.
As is par with a Gary D. Henry book, the beginning is more narrative. Henry uses this time to acquaint his readers with the background and histories of his most prominant characters. He also builds a very solid visual of the scenery so that it doesn't need to be overly emphasized during the action scenes. I already have the layout in my head and can run the characters just as quickly as possible through the terrifying events. Although supiorly frightening, I generally read it with a "this could never happen" Jason-ish viewpoint. And I so loved the ending. I was left wondering where Henry would take this story next.
