“THIS SHOULD BE A MOVIE – BEST READ OF THE YEAR” – Viral Storm: A Dystopian Zombie Apocalypse Thriller (Viral Series Book 2) by Jade Lazlow

 Viral Storm1

Line Blurb

“The sores forming with unholy speed on Harley’s arms and legs confirmed the infection was spreading. Its poison surged through her veins with such momentum that she could feel its sting in the current of her pulse. Unrelenting pain seared every cell, and she struggled to maintain focus, despite the fever raging in her blood.” – Viral StormViral Storm continues the story of Casey Williams and her friends attempting to flee the country and expose the evil work of BioGenetics, creators of the virus that spawned the zombie apocalypse. Euthanizing her best friend, who’d been infected with the virus, was the most soul-crushing thing Casey could have imagined, but that was nothing compared to what happens next… Like the first book in the series, Viral Dawn, Viral Storm has gore, violence, and dark themes common in zombie apocalyptic fiction, but the book focuses more on the characters’ lives than other elements. The story centers on strong, young adult female characters as do similar books in female-centered dystopian fiction like The Hunger Games, Twilight, Divergent, and The Year of the Flood. Join Casey as her struggle for survival continues in Viral Storm.

THIS SHOULD BE A MOVIE – BEST READ OF THE YEAR

How does one put into words the depth that a book took them into? Ms. Rankin’s Viral Storm (book 2) left me with feeling an enormous desire for the rest of the story. I could not put it down, it felt as if I was walking beside each of the characters as the story unfolded around me.
After listening to Book 1, Viral Dawn, I could hardly wait for book 2 and pre-ordered it. Although my (to be read list is long,} Viral Dawn had me in its sway and I put Viral Storm first on my list as soon as it became available.
I was not disappointed, from the first page, it kept me enthralled, weeping for Haley’s predicament and praying for Casey, Kyle, Jordan, and Verna to escape and find a way to save the world from the man-made virus that was let loose on the public by the evilness of the desire to control all things.
I could not put Viral Storm down until the last page of the book, even though it was the middle of the night and I knew it would make the next day more difficult for me. It is and was a thrilling read, my only regret is that I finished it and that I must wait till next year for its sequel.
Viral Dawn and Viral Storm are labeled as YA books, but for me, the characters were ageless, the story terrific, the plot deep, and it is a series that I will reread through the years, even though I am not a zombie fan as such, I have put it on my list of best reads of the month.
This series should be a movie or a TV series, it is that good.
Thank you Ms. Rankin for writing this series.

“[The author] sounds one hundred percent authentic, like someone we’ve met or seen a thousand times before—completely relatable. Metamorphosis by Isabella MacLeod

Metamorphosis delves into the rather unusual life of Miranda Macleod, who has had a touch of the supernatural surrounding her since childhood. Miranda was leading a relatively normal life in an upper-middle-class neighborhood as a mother, wife, and nurse. When her marriage begins to disintegrate, she becomes romantically involved with a mysterious American who recently moved from California and specializes in information technology in a high-end company. She is drawn to this man like no one else before. Her world is then turned upside down, and she is thrown into total chaos. She begins to experience terrifying physical transformations throughout her body. These experiences tear her apart physically, psychologically, and emotionally, reaching to the very core of her being. Everything unravels—her marriage, career, love, and self—as she battles to keep her own sanity and hold her family together. She moves through surreal experiences that are right out of the twilight zone. Miranda also explores her own reawakened sexuality during all this chaos by looking for love in all the wrong places. Her search for a cure also takes her alone halfway around the world. The more Miranda searches for the truth, the further down the rabbit hole she goes.

but still awesome!

The writing in this book is spectacular! It’s first-person, which can be hard. To pull something like that off, you need an original voice, and with the character of Miranda, the author does that. On top of this, she sounds one hundred percent authentic, like someone we’ve met or seen a thousand times before—completely relatable.

“Another Carson Reno investigation that you will love!” – Dead Men Don’t Remember (Carson Reno Mystery Series Book 9) by Gerald W. Darnell

Ger dead men don't remember with blurb

Line Blurb

All Carson Reno Mystery Series Books are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
It’s a New Year, and it has gotten off to a very bad start for Carson.
Several prominent citizens and business leaders from Humboldt are dying in some strange and bizarre accidents. Carson becomes involved when an insurance company hires him to investigate.
What happens next is even more strange and bizarre for this little town in West Tennessee.
The clues are everywhere, but none of them make any sense. It may be that the ‘last man standing’ is responsible for these accidents – but why?
Follow Carson as he works on one of his wildest adventures ever in ‘Dead Men Don’t Remember.’

Another Carson Reno investigation that you will love!

Carson Reno starts the New Year with a case in Humboldt where prominent businessmen are being murdered or commit suicide. You will be taken on a remarkable journey as Reno investigates these cases until he finally gets the bad guy!
Darnell’s characters are amazing! They are believable to the point that, along with the storyline, pull you into the investigation.
I highly recommend “Dead Men Don’t Remember” to everyone!

Nineteen-year-old Allie Walker’s life has been hell. She would do anything to escape. The painful experiences of the drugs, the beatings, white trash talk of the small town—anywhere else would be better.

As she accepts the ride, something heightens her senses. Was it his eyes? The air of innocence? With nothing more than her instincts screaming at her, Allie will do whatever it takes to survive.

Chef Rose

A shockingly exciting thriller

“Perfect Bait” is a horror-filled, exciting suspense thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat even after you finish the last page. The main character Allie is a survivor that will win your heart and remain in your mind well after finishing this first book in this series. You will be impatiently waiting for the next installment in this series. I highly recommend beginning this journey by reading this tale.

“If you like smart and witty romance with interesting characters and a superb plot, if you are not afraid to weep and cry, you should read Blue Lake.” – Blue Lake (Time After Time) by Carol Ann Kauffman

When widowed Nicole decided to step back into life in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico with Richard, a young, handsome British actor who professed his undying love and devotion to her on a daily basis, she mistook his boundless enthusiasm for her as little more than youthful impetuousness. She had no idea where their relationship would take her physically or emotionally. She would find herself in many dazzling international locations, putting her own life on hold, simply to be with him. She had no concept how strong her commitment to him would grow and to what extent she would go to protect him and ensure his safety and well-being. And she certainly had no idea the depth of his devotion to her, an unlikely but undeniable love that would span continents and a decade of their lives, entwining them closer and closer, while his career, their families, and other relationships pulled them farther and farther apart. BLUE LAKE is a story of the power of love.
The series, TIME AFTER TIME, follows a pair of quintessential lovers, Richard and Nicole, through their lives together, in different places, in different times, with different names and faces, and sometimes even on other planets. This follows the alternative theory that the relationships we forge in this lifetime, both the good and the bad, are continued into the future, and are rooted deeply in our past. Whatever we do, whoever we love, and the good and evil deeds we do today follow us into the future. Unsettled issues will present themselves again and again until they are ultimately resolved. Those people who have had a profound effect on us in this lifetime will find us again in the future. And although everything changes, love remains.

Books in the TIME AFTER TIME series are
BLUE LAKE, BELTERRA, The BASLICATO, BENTLEY SQUARE, WAITING FOR RICHARD, and LORD OF BLAKELEY. They do not need to be read in order.

A wonderful love story!

Love at first sight, the BIG and REAL one, happens occasionally but if it does, it’s spectacular. However, the relationship with the true soul mate or twin flame isn’t easy, requires sacrifices, and sometimes even inflicts pain. On one hand, perfect couples deal with overwhelming joy, on the other hand with doubt, worry, remorse, and fear. Carol and Richard, the main characters in Blue Lake, initially sharing a strong connection, have to face the hidden, dark side of love as well and fight together for their future.
Despite being a down-to-earth person I got carried along with this novel. I suppose it’s a matter of the cast, great and versatile setting, and emotional charge. Even stone-cold readers like me would need some tissues to get through the Blue Lake and it’s absolutely fine–it feels good to realize there is love out there. And it conquers all.
If you like smart and witty romance with interesting characters and a superb plot, if you are not afraid to weep and cry, you should read Blue Lake.

“A very creepy shorter story, excellently written” – Out of the Woods: A Mother Goose Legend (The Never Lands Saga) by Andi Lawrencovna

#amwriting, #novel, #mswl, #romanticfantasy, #darkfantasy, #paranormalfantasy

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe;
She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do.
She fed them all broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and sent them to bed.
~Mother Goose, The Dorling Kindersley Book of Nursery Rhymes (2000)She took them from the woods, and she took them from dells, from hamlets and homesteads and across the wide world, she found young orphans, those abandoned and left on their own, and gave them a home. And all she asked for was a little piece of their soul in payment…Whoever said nursery rhymes were harmless?

Lolah

A very creepy shorter story, excellently written

This is a terribly chilling take on the Old Woman in the Shoe rhyme. Whilst it’s a standalone shorter story, you’re best reading it after the Charming series, and that truly isn’t too great a chore as the books are all excellent. This one, however, is probably not one to read at night!
