“Great first book in this fun series that I read out of sequence and still enjoyed very much” – Dead on Arrival (Laura and Gerry Mystery, Book 1) by Karen Vaughan

Laura Hamilton wakes up one morning only to find out a dead body inside her apartment. It was, after all, her ex-coworker, “Velcro” Hodges, a debt collector who was known to leech on his prey until the debt is already paid in full. But why was he dropped inside Laura’s room?

Now someone wants Laura to be dead. As the plot thickens, Laura tries to find out on who could possibly want her next to be in cold blood. Lead Detective Inspector Jeff Gibbons helps her, tracking any leads he gets, but that doesn’t seem to help solve the puzzle.

Meet Laura in this fun first book in the series

Great first book in this fun series that I read out of sequence and still enjoyed very much. Corpse magnet, Laura, is on her own in this first book written before Gerry joins her on her misadventures. She’s a funny, sarcastic, unpredictable character who takes up sleuthing when a dead body turns up in her apartment. More than a little motivation, that’s for sure! Several secondary characters add interest along with more than a little sleaze as Laura sets out alongside Detective Inspector Jeff Gibbons to find out Whodunit. I’m not going to tell you that, of course, or reveal how Laura figures it out. You need to read this book and have the fun doing that for yourself.

“It is a book I had trouble putting down because I had to know what was going to happen next.” – The Price of Beauty in Strawberry Land (Carson Reno Mystery Series, Book 2) by Gerald W. Darnell

All Carson Reno, and Mystery Series Books, are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
The year is 1962 and Carson Reno, once again, gets himself into situations that would be better left alone. A Memphis client hires Carson to prove infidelity, but instead, he finds corruption and murder going all the way to the top of Memphis politics. A Jack Logan client investigation takes him back to Humboldt looking into automobile fraud, which lands him smack in the middle of a murder. Not just any murder, but the murder of a local beauty queen – one who seemed to have too many enemies for a girl her age.

Viv Drewa

Another book by Darnell that I couldn’t put down!

I became a fan of Gerald W. Darnell’s Carson Reno Mysteries after I read the first book!
His characters are believable and exciting to follow in his books.
“The Price of Beauty in Strawberry Land” has twists and turns that keep you wanting more. It is a book I had trouble putting down because I had to know what would happen next.
I encourage everyone to read this, and the other books, by Gerald W. Darnell.

“A Great Read That Will Make You Laugh and Shiver.” –Dead Comic Standing by Karen Vaughan

Stand-up comic Dave Feener has a great rapport with his audience, so when his body is found maliciously stabbed a short distance away from The Laff Attak where he’s just performed, there seems to be no real motive for the brutal murder. A serial killer who does not think local comics are funny has just begun his rampage.
Constables Mike Borneo and Lissa Cassway along with detective Vince Vetters are racing to find the killer before he claims another victim. Was Feener just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Left with his wedding ring and his wallet, Feener’s body isn’t even cold when the killer strikes again-this time stabbing Phil Vetters, a comic known for his redneck shtick and the brother of detective Vince Vetters. Just as Vince vows revenge, the killer makes a fateful mistake when he stabs another comic and does not ensure his victim is dead before he leaves the crime scene.

The killer is a sicko, but not an idiot. He’s right under everyone’s noses and the anticipation of a righteous kill is all just part of the fun. Only time will tell if the killer will have the last laugh.

A Great Read That Will Make You Laugh and Shiver

By Sandra Carrington-smith

Those who are convinced that laughter makes one live longer might think again after reading this delightful murder mystery. When comedians begin to turn up dead, everyone scratches their heads and wonders who will be next, as laughter and tragedy continue to meet in the shadows. Karen Vaughan did a fantastic job intertwining detailed police procedurals with entertaining comedy routines, and she delivered an extremely unique plot in a voice that’s as alluring as the silk of a spider web. A great read that will make you laugh and shiver.

Dave Norem author of Killing, a Real-Bad Business

Great read. Good mystery

What a Rocking and Rolling ride this was. Well descripted, interesting characters and awesome scenes made this a good, fun read. Did I mention what a great mystery the basis for the story is? The author hit a home run on the mystery. I also enjoyed the photos of the old cars, ones I am quite familiar with.

Amazing

This book is a thrilling page-turner that sucks you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s very smooth and easy to read, amazingly detailed, and unpredictable which I love because I hate figuring out a book before anything really happens. I highly recommend this book.

“I enjoyed watching Carson connect the dots to make a picture and reveal the suspects.” – Dead Men Don’t Remember (Carson Reno Mystery Series Book 9) by Gerald W. Darnell

All Carson Reno Mystery Series Books are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
It’s a New Year, and it has gotten off to a very bad start for Carson.
Several prominent citizens and business leaders from Humboldt are dying in some strange and bizarre accidents. Carson becomes involved when an insurance company hires him to investigate.
What happens next is even more strange and bizarre for this little town in West Tennessee.
The clues are everywhere, but none of them make any sense. It may be that the ‘last man standing’ is responsible for these accidents – but why?
Follow Carson as he works on one of his wildest adventures ever in ‘Dead Men Don’t Remember.’

B.McGrath

Never trust a crook

I enjoyed watching Carson connect the dots to make a picture and reveal the suspects. I applaud Reno for all his good suppositions, but when he makes an error it costs a life. I can’t believe he was so remiss with a good friend”s life- comes from being too sure of himself!!! Carson failed me there! I did enjoy the drama of the final shoot out scene.
