I read this book was taken from a screen play, which might be one of the main reasons it stood out to me. Of course, this means the dialogue is much stronger

The author promises vampires, witches, frogs, and ghosts, but also delivers a living house and slugs, among a host of other oddities. As with all collections, readers each have their favorites. Were I to choose mine, they would be ‘The Present,’ ‘Pink Boots,’ ‘Living Double,’ ‘Once a Frog Always a Frog,’ and ‘You Really Should Know Your Neighbors.’ all of which are very deserving of five-stars in my mind. Driving down a rocky road I saw the overgrown grass, weeds, and poison ivy overtaking the outer perimeter of the bushes. The smell of mildew permeated the air, along with the stench of animals killed by cars coming up from the ground along this dirt road. I could see the sadness on the faces in the cars behind me; I could feel the pain and sorrow.
As I looked inside the cars and saw the faces of the drivers, I began to wonder what they were thinking, their thoughts and feelings as they traveled down life's highway, maybe for the very last time. What stories lay behind the faces behind the wheel of each oncoming car? What stories were hidden? Whose voices are now silenced?

The characters, Tru and Deak, are well developed and engaging. Tru has pulled up stakes in California and moved to Alaska to homestead in a small cabin needing loads of work before winter. Deak is suffering from the accidental death of his wife. Together they are better than apart. His knowledge of the region and the locals allows Tru to get the help she needs without becoming too dependent on Deak. This story was engaging and hard to put down

Loved this story!
Going into this story after reading the blurb I went into the story expecting one thing, but what I got was completely different! This story was wonderfully written and touched on a subject that is not talked about very often. It was like a breath of fresh air, and I absolutely loved it! There was a twist I just didn’t see coming! The characters within the story were all great. I loved how they were not perfect, And that they all seemed to have a little secret, I really want to find out what each of their secrets is! Nate and Natalie were a great couple. I really liked how Natalie was so supportive of Nate. The book had many laugh out loud moments for me which was great! I love a book that can make me laugh. It was also quite emotional, made me tear up a couple of times. I could feel Nate’s anxiety through the book, I just wanted to reach inside and tell him that everything was going to be ok!
The book had a very in-depth look into the MMA world. I could see that the author really researched this subject, I may have learned a thing or two myself about the industry. I also really loved that the cover model has a story of his own to tell! I really loved that he is on the cover of this fantastic book. You shouldn’t feel a need to hide who you are and this story gives hope to others who may find themselves in similar situations. This is a beautiful story of finding your way and finding that person who will be with you through thick and thin, they are always by your side and loving you unconditionally. I can’t wait to read the stories that will come next in this series.
