She rebuked any parental control and choose to decide her own fate ~ Cross-Ties by Carolyn Bowen
Leah was a rebel. She chose to live her life outside the constraints of 19th century English society. She rebuked any parental control and choose to decide her own fate. From England to the Caribbean and then frontier America, she was loved by family and friends yet still had enemies. Sailing the seas with pirates lurking about helped chisel her character as she created a life of her own near the sea.
Explore the scenic countries with Leah and learn of the native cultures and taste their delicacies. As a mixed race female, she placed prejudices under her feet and learned to recognize and accept love even if it was against the law.
Wow, what an adventure! Admittedly, I’m usually not a big fan of these kinds of books (I tend to stick to the sci-fi and romance genres) but I decided to give “Cross-Ties” a chance and go into the read with an open mind, and I must say that it turned out to be a great decision. I could see early on, within the first few chapters, that the author is truly talented when it comes to weaving words into stories. The prose flows in a very smooth manner while conveying everything in very vivid way – I personally found it easy to visualize many of the scenes and also empathize and understand the feelings of Leah, the protagonist. I highly recommend ‘Cross-Ties’ to readers looking for a genuinely immersive and adventurous read. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future releases by Carolyn M. Bowen.
“Damien was sweet and Kiel was irresistible.” – This Could Work (Nice Ink Book 5) by Trish Edmisten
Damian Bishop thought he found love once, but he was wrong. Suffering one heartbreaking loss after another, he’s done with men. Sure, it’s lonely sometimes, but he’s got a good job, great friends, and a cat. What more does he need?
Kiel Nice feels the same. Why settle for one man when the sexy firefighter can have any man he wants?
Fate, and their friends and family, have other plans for these two. There are only so many times they can be thrown together before the chemistry between them becomes too much to ignore. And maybe just maybe the thing they’ve always been most afraid of? Maybe this could work.
This is the final novel in the Nice Ink series. It’s a 70K word novel with no cheating and a guaranteed HEA despite a few bumps along the way. Although it’s part of a series, each book follows a different couple and can be read as a standalone.

Charming story!
Great finale to the Nice Ink series (though the author hinted that X’s little brother Bailey would get his own story). Damien was sweet and Kiel was irresistible. :). All the guys from the previous stories were there, including the irrepressible Cooper and growly X.
Loved it!

The Irrevocable Series is a pretty clean YA dystopian series (end of the world
The Irrevocable Series is a pretty clean YA dystopian series (end of the world…. not zombie apocalypse). I enjoyed this series very much. I am definitely all for end-of-the-world books. I think my favorite part of this series was Bailey. The loss of the most important people in her life changed her from pleasant to an angry at the world, bitter self-centered girl. Through each of the books, I could see and feel her growth as a person is trying to deal with everything. Book one sets up the series and book two and three are where all the good stuff happens (for me). These books are action-packed and full of twists and turns. The story is well written and the main characters are relatable and real. There were a few too many side characters for me to keep straight in my head. All in all, this is a great series and I would recommend this to everyone!

Format: Kindle EditionI can only think of one word. One word that best describes this book, its characters, and this story.Charming.This entire book struck me as so charming, I couldn’t help but think of my late mother as I read it. Why? Because she loved a mystery. She was always watching shows like Murder She Wrote, Cagney and Lacey, and the like. This Emlyn Goode mystery would have fit right in. The meddlesome citizen, friends with the police, and seemingly better at solving murders than the pro’s are. It’s such a great read. It grabbed me on the first page, and made me curious about the other books in this series that I haven’t read.
This novelette is well worth the read, and I highly recommend it if you like a good mystery. Hell, even if you don’t, pick it up. I’d bet that you would still enjoy this book.

CURL UP AND READ SOME HEARTFELT POETRY BY SHERRILL S. CANNON– A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS
Have you ever loved, been loved, been confused about love, or suffered from loss of love? All these feelings have been captured and shared in the word of heartfelt poems, compiled over many years by a retired teacher and award-winning author
A MUST READ: STORIES AND EMOTIONS FLOW THROUGH EACH VERSE.
February 19, 2018Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseIn years past, poetry was written and enjoyed by many, today there is the idea, including among some professors, (who I have heard say, they don’t understand poetry.) That insinuates that a good or great poem is something that is indecipherable to most.
I am not one of them, as with great poets, such as Maya Angelou, Robert Stevenson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, there is a story in the poems, a sense of place and emotion flowing through the verses. ‘A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS,’ by Sherrill S. Cannon is one such book.
It is rich in emotion, stories flow through the verses, and tales of love and loss are ripe within its pages. It is a glorious book that should be savored from start to finish and this reader feels that one would have to be devoid of life experience not to find many in this book that do not strike a cord deep inside of them.
Ms. Cannon’s poetry takes on the issues of grief, dying, being the object of idolatry, as, in her poem Pedestal, love, loss, and letting go. A magnificent journey through life.
A few of those that struck a deep chord in me was ‘Pedestals,’ That tells us the tale of someone who is stuck upon a pedestal and cannot become truly human for fear of losing their love. ‘The Real Me,’ that speaks of the little part of oneself that is seldom if ever shown to anyone. ‘To See The Future,’ shows us all that we might lose if we could see the future. For we would no longer be living in the present, the joy, sorrow, love, grief, beauty, and glory of life would be forever shaded with the knowledge of what’s to come. ‘Does Memory Last,’ a question each of us may ponder, when we lose a loved one or are facing death. ‘Old Woman,’ is a poignant look at the young woman that exists in all, under the veil of wrinkles and aging.
There were so many poems in this book that touched cords deeply within me, as to bring smiles to my lips, joy to my heart, thoughtfulness to my mind and grief inside of me.
A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS is an astoundingly, wonderous trip through the thoughts, life, and emotions we all go through in life.
In the pages of this book, everyone will find something that will help them grow or understand themselves better. I highly recommend it.
