While technically the third book in the series, Marika is actually a standalone novel, so people like me who read it without reading the first two books will have no problem understanding what’s going on. What I really liked about this book is the world-building: the way the author brings this alien world to life is fascinating. I also liked the main character, who grows right in front of your eyes while she finds the truth about her past and figures out her purpose. I was fascinated with the story and found putting the book down difficult, but lucky for me I read pretty fast and managed to finish it in one sit. Highly recommended for SF fans, but personally I think there is enough love story in there to keep fans of multiple genres happy.
