“I truly enjoyed the killer’s motive for doing what he did; it was unusual and humorous in an absurdist way.” – Dead Comic Standing by Karen Vaughan

Stand-up comic Dave Feener has a great rapport with his audience, so when his body is found maliciously stabbed a short distance away from The Laff Attak where he’s just performed, there seems to be no real motive for the brutal murder. A serial killer who does not think local comics are funny has just begun his rampage.
Constables Mike Borneo and Lissa Cassway along with detective Vince Vetters are racing to find the killer before he claims another victim. Was Feener just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Left with his wedding ring and his wallet, Feener’s body isn’t even cold when the killer strikes again-this time stabbing Phil Vetters, a comic known for his redneck shtick and the brother of detective Vince Vetters. Just as Vince vows revenge, the killer makes a fateful mistake when he stabs another comic and does not ensure his victim is dead before he leaves the crime scene. The killer is a sicko, but not an idiot. He’s right under everyone’s noses, and the anticipation of a righteous kill is all just part of the fun. Only time will tell if the killer will have the last laugh.

After having read Daytona Dead by Karen Vaughan, I knew she had a sense of humor. But this was decidedly different from that novel. Dead Comic Standing was a delightful, five-star read. It was easy to slip into this novel about someone prowling the comedy clubs of Edmonton, killing comedians after they’ve performed their stand-up routines. Part of the enjoyment for me was reading the comedy elements. I also felt I got an inside view of the way comedy clubs are run. Part police procedural, part whodunit, and part thriller, I breezed through this enjoyable novel. It was great fun. I truly enjoyed the killer’s motive for doing what he did; it was unusual and humorous in an absurdist way. A wonderful way to spend some time.

A gorgeous introduction to flowers in the garden

This is the third book I have read in this delightful series and it is the one that I loved the most. The idea of each flower being protected by its own fairy was one of my favourite fantasies as a young girl and this book with its incredible illustrations has brought my childhood dreams to life.

The second poem in this book, Parade of Flowers, is a gorgeous introduction to all the flowers in the garden and the order of their appearance and the illustration of the flower fairies marching in a line is adorable.

Each flower has its own fairy and illustration, many of which depict small children and are just so cute. My two favourite poems depicted elves. The first, Daffodil Elf, says:
“He loves to sit on his
sunny yellow Daffodil
and look out upon
the Bright Blue Sky.”
I love the bright yellow of daffodils and this poem captured my imagination.

The other poem I adored is called Sweet Pea Elves and is illustrated with two naughty little boy elves eating sweets. This is just so typical of little boys.
“Every chance they get,
they nibble on Candy, Cakes and Cookies.
These Elves will climb up miles and miles on their vines,
to get a Yummy Treat.”

I bought this book as a Christmas present for my niece but I love it so much, I think I will be ordering one for me.

Great start to the series.

This was a really fun and fast read. It kept me hooked and not wanting to stop until the end. It does start slow but the authors building a lot of backstories which is really nice. A lot of reviews are saying its too short but that really isn’t the problem. It’s the first book in the series and its over 200 pages. The problem is you get to the end of this one and you want book 2 so you can know what happens next.
The character building in this story is amazing. You really get to know Casey and feel for her. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who’s a fan of zombie novels. YA or not it's a great story. I cant wait to see where the rest of the series goes.

Carol Ann Kauffman is showing a different side of Romance, how many are there of you out there?
Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2017

This story is completely different from all the other books I have read by Carol Ann Kauffman. You get to see another side of her creative mind and I love it. She had me guessing all through the book. She filled it with mystery, suspense, romance, and paranormal. Her style is the same as her other work, maybe even better.
Open doorways can be wonderful and yet confusing to some. But to go through a doorway and wake up not knowing who you are or where you are can be unusual. Sam doesn't remember parts of her life. Her husband is telling her that she hit her head and has memory loss. But she doesn’t know who he is either. Jaxs is madly in love with his wife and would do anything for her, even switch places with Jackson Blake.
As the two of them resume their life together in Florida, Sam finds herself falling in love with her husband all over again. But is he really her husband? Then one day trouble happens and she is pulled into a cloud with hands all over her. She has no idea what is going on. But she ends up at a castle and remembers her father and everybody there, but how? Jackson ends up there too and wants to taker her home. The king is mean and loves to torture people. He goes after a tracker who found Samantha thinking that he killed his real daughter. So how many Samantha’s are there? And is there more than one Jackson Blake?
As the story goes on, you find yourself trying to figure out why there are clones and who made them. Why would someone want more than one person that looks the same? Well, the guardian has his reasons. Can this all be worked out? Or is someone going to die? Will all be disappointed in the end? You will have to read it to find out.

Once Upon a Time…No, not once upon a time, because this is no fairy tale, and a thief doesn’t deserve a Happily-Ever-After. – The Raven Thief: A Grimm Retelling by Andi Lawrencovna

Once Upon a Time…No, not once upon a time, because this is no fairy tale, and a thief doesn’t deserve a Happily-Ever-After. This is the story of a woman who thought she could have whatever she wanted without consequences, and in the stealing, lost the one thing she wanted most. It’s the story of the man she left behind, who could never let her go. Only this time, if he fights to stay with her, it could mean more than just their deaths, but that of their world. Orali never thought that Diorlin would agree to work with her again, and even if he did, that he would never feel the way he had in the past for her, or that her feelings wouldn’t have changed either. If only love were enough to fight against the power of The Raven Thief.
