A good story well told
“Adam Gold” is a good story that is well-told, which is probably the best thing that can be said about any novel. The dialog is sharply and realistically written…which is probably the main reason the characters seem so well-drawn, realistic and sympathetic. Bernhardt also avoids most of the standard cliches and tropes of the vampire novel while still respecting the genre and its sources. The author especially has a deft touch with the language. I found myself stopping often to savor a particularly original…and often moving…passage. Indeed, much of the effectiveness, mood, emotion and characterization comes from Bernhardt’s adept skill at writing.

Captivating Vampires
The imagery in this book was tangible and the story kept me racing through to the end. This one packs a tragic punch for sure. Poor, beautiful Adam. I enjoyed the twists on vampires and the unexpected turns along the way. I’m really looking forward to reading more of this author’s work and seeing the story continue to unfold!

Run
Sometimes wishing for a different life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. People often imagine what it would be like to be a vamp and have a glorious life but they don’t realize the dark sides of those fantasies. I wouldn’t want to be in Adam’s shoes.
It’s 2052 and Earth has lost two-thirds of its population to the Great War. Many more lives were lost to earthquakes, the Clover Virus, and the Death Plague. Years later, survivors were clumped into factions. Two of the factions, the Guild and the Brotherhood, have fought over medical supplies and food for years. The fight is coming to a head as manpower dwindles, and the struggle becomes one to gain numbers, even if said numbers are children… Griffin Storm is hiding out in Underground Atlanta. He’s an albino man that can manipulate glass and crystal, and he uses his special abilities to raid warehouses and old buildings for food and supplies for the abandoned children that live underground. During a raid, he meets Tassta Vinetti, a resident of the Brotherhood fortress. He is taken to the fortress and chaos ensues as Tassta, her twin brother Penn, and her uncle, try to keep their new visitor and his untold powers a secret. Griffin is the only survivor of the Guild’s deadly experiments, and they hunt for him because his survival will have dynamic consequences on the world. The Guild believes that Griffin will transform into a G.O.D., a genetically enhanced Omni-dimensional being with limitless abilities. Will Griffin transform into a G.O.D.? Will he save the children of the Underground from their tragic life? Only time will tell…

Intriguing and suspenseful
A friend recommended this book to me, and I found it to be an incredibly exciting dystopian adventure. The characters are well-defined, and there’s a lovely slow-building romance. The main character, and Blood Master, Griffin, is complex and kind. Griffin is a survivor. Not only of the Great War, Clover Virus, and Death Plague but also of the cruel experiments of the evil Guild Faction. I found myself breathlessly rooting for Griffin as he struggles to hide his identity, and undergo a transformation, all while protecting orphaned children and the woman he loves.

November 12, 2052: Earth has lost two-thirds of its population to the Great War. Many more lives have been lost to earthquakes, the Clover Virus, and the Death Plague. Years later, survivors are clumped into factions. Two of those factions—the Brotherhood and the Guild Faction—have battled over medical supplies and food for years. The fight is coming to a head as manpower dwindles, and the struggle becomes one to gain numbers, even if said numbers are children…Griffin Storm, an albino man kidnapped and dragged into the Brotherhood, has transformed into a G.O.D., a Genetically enhanced Omni-dimensional being. Two weeks in the brig, and Griffin’s released after it’s determined that he’s learned to control most of his god-like abilities. His abilities have grown almost as much as his love for Tassta Vinetti and his unfortunate bloodlust. His bond with Tassta’s twin brother, Penn, has grown as well and is cemented in secrets. Not disappointed! Griffin, having earned the trust of Fortress authorities, is set to be released from The Brig, much to the delight of Tassta, his sweetheart. Although Griffin still has a lot to learn about balancing his newfound abilities against his inherent humanity, overall he does well and has enough control over his abilities to prevent caving into his inner desires. As his and Tassta’s romance heats up, Griffin gets the horrifying news soon after his release, Griffin’s told that Guild agents and the notorious Trips (super-agents of the Guild) are in the Underground. He must now test his abilities to save the abandoned children that live there. Will Griffin rescue the children of the Underground from a tragic end? Will Tassta and Griffin’s love survive such turmoil? Can a G.O.D. forgive himself when death and destruction follow his every move? Read Blood Phase, the gripping second book in the G.O.D.s Series!

And I wasn’t disappointed!
I had read Blood Master previously and became enthralled with Griffin Storm’s character (for my review of Blood Master, click here). When I heard that Ms. Campbell was publishing the sequel, Blood Phase, I couldn’t wait to dig in. And I wasn’t disappointed!
As his and Tassta’s romance heats up, Griffin gets the horrifying news that the Guild Faction, specifically the Trips, have invaded Underground, and are holding the remaining children, Waylene, and Skylar hostage. The chain of events that follows may be too much for even a G.O.D. to take in, and all his training to control his potentially destructive powers may be undone. The only tempering force is his love for Tassta, her family, the children, and his friends in the Underground. Readers will be taken on a real emotional roller coaster as Griffin battles both the Guild Faction and the two halves of himself, at the same time. Again, I am truly in awe of Ms. Campbell’s character-developing abilities.
Absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the sequel. Well done again, Ms. Campbell.
