I have read several of Cherime Macfarlane's novels in this series. To date this novel is my favorite. I enjoyed the language and the story line has tightened up. Being a fan of historical fiction the novel also pikes my interest and takes me to worlds that were real and not fantasy. Book 8 is engaging but also stand alone - you can read any of the novels in any order without losing meaning. If you want to escape to another time, enjoy flawed human characters (a real person) you will enjoy this book and the others - exciting and wonderfully researched.
