Winnie Award Winner at the Equus Film Festival. Best Equine Rescue book. Dinky: The Nurse Mare’s Foal is the story of one little foals fight for survival after being taken from his mother within hours of his birth. Dinky, takes us on a poignant trip through the heart and mind of an animal, who was born for the sole purpose of producing milk in the mare. In the elite world of horses, Dinky was considered a by-product, a ‘junk foal.’
Dinky’s story will resonate with animal lovers, as well as anyone who has adopted. Although a horse, his story has been called an adoption story. The reader can follow him through the heartbreak, cruelty, loneliness, and finally to happiness in his forever home. His story is based on true events. Each event from the moment the author met Dinky actually happened, though it is the author’s interpretation of what he might have been thinking and feeling during the occasions described in his story. His early life which is unknown has been fictionalized by the author and constructed through research and imagination.
There are many wonderful animal rescue leagues, many are very empathic to these young animals, though some are not. Since Ms. Bishop has no knowledge of Dinky’s early days, she used the latter to enhance the strength of his story.
It will break your heart, open your eyes, lift you up, and teach you much about horses. It is suitable for all ages.

A Poignant Book For All Ages
Dinky: The Nurse Mare’s Foal is a memoir told from the first person’s POV (point of view). What makes this memoir unlike any other is that the first person (narrator) is Dinky, a foal whose life begins as a seemingly insurmountable struggle. He survives mistreatment and continued disappointments during his early life.
He longs for the time he spent with his mother who adored him. But he was so young when he was taken from her, that he was confused and lonely. Additionally, he hadn’t learned all the lessons of life that would help him in the coming years. However, in their short time together mom infused her love into Dinky’s heart and mind while reassuring him that he was smarter than most horses and would grow up to be strong. Dinky’s strength would be tested throughout his young life particularly in the areas of learning the ways of a herd and to be able to trust people again.
Luckily for Dinky, a delightful couple named Ken and Marta recognized his beauty..inside and out, adopted him and taught him what it felt like to be nurtured and loved. As Dinky stated, “They even learned how to speak horse.” Dinky is both a story of loss as well as a lesson on the power of love to heal.
It is rare that an author can write in the first person and make it feel totally authentic. Author Marta Moran Bishop masters this task brilliantly. A reader of any age who loves and respects animals of all kinds will be deeply touched by this book.

Chemistry
Love the chemistry between Dori and Jessie. I love how he protects her and how she helps him with his PTSD. A good read.
The honeymoon of Laura and Gerry Fitz is off to a fast-paced yet deadly start when they arrive in Florida. There is a maniac behind the wheel who needs to win at all costs. When he wins, life is great but when he loses he is DRIVEN TO KILL! The first victim off the starting line is Laura’s ex-husband Lou, and she is taking it personally. Mix in a creepy cop and some unexpected surprises and you have a race for your life. Who will win and who will wipe out?…
This book is a hoot! The moment our Canadian friends arrive for their honeymoon in Daytona, FL all hell breaks loose. Laura and Gerry just happen to run over a dead body when they arrive and that dead body just happens to be Laura’s ex. As you can imagine, good cops and bad cops alike have them on their radar, before you can say “I’m going to Disney World”. They don’t hit that tourist hotspot, btw. What they do is their best to enjoy themselves as honeymoon couples are wont to do. They manage to squeeze in some quality time and even do some touristy things that involve a lot of eating, drinking and NASCAR racing. That all happens in between stumbling upon clues, a break-in at their hotel, trips to the local police station, and a mounting number of missing and dead people. The best thing, for me, is Laura’s sarcastic wit and her hubby’s devotion to his new wife, despite her proclivity to attract trouble like a Porterhouse steak in a pack of Doberman Pinschers! This isn’t the first time she’s been up to her “almost-plus-sized” neck in trouble. Daytona Dead is the third in the series, so if you want to find out more about Laura you can read Dead on Arrival and Over Her Dead Body. Kudos to a fun, funny, fast read.
WARNING FOR 18+ ONLYThe G.O.D. series must be read in order
November 12, 2052: Earth has lost two-thirds of its population to the Great War. Many more lives have been lost to earthquakes, the Clover Virus, and the Death Plague. Years later, survivors are clumped into factions. Two of those factions—the Brotherhood and the Guild Faction—have battled over medical supplies and food for years. The fight is coming to a head as manpower dwindles, and the struggle becomes one to gain numbers, even if said numbers are children…
Griffin Storm, an albino man kidnapped and dragged into the Brotherhood, has transformed into a G.O.D., a Genetically enhanced Omni-dimensional being. Two weeks in the brig, and Griffin’s released after it’s determined that he’s learned to control most of his god-like abilities. His abilities have grown almost as much as his love for Tassta Vinetti and his unfortunate bloodlust. His bond with Tassta’s twin brother, Penn, has grown as well and is cemented in secrets.
Not disappointed!
Griffin, having earned the trust of Fortress authorities, is set to be released from The Brig, much to the delight of Tassta, his sweetheart. Although Griffin still has a lot to learn about balancing his newfound abilities against his inherent humanity, overall he does well and has enough control over his abilities to prevent caving into his inner desires. As his and Tassta’s romance heats up, Griffin gets the horrifying news soon after his release, Griffin’s told that Guild agents and the notorious Trips (super-agents of the Guild) are in the Underground. He must now test his abilities to save the abandoned children that live there. Will Griffin rescue the children of the Underground from a tragic end? Will Tassta and Griffin’s love survive such turmoil? Can a G.O.D. forgive himself when death and destruction follow his every move? Read Blood Phase, the gripping second book in the G.O.D.s Series!
Awesome love By Mary Ann Boehm
Tassta goes with Griffin to save more children from being destroyed by the guild faction. And they discovered some interesting things about each other and the past and future.
Addison Apple is back and this time he’s got a friend! Addison is in a new town and has moved in down the street from Miss Emelina Hewitt and her dog, Stanley.
Emelina likes to chatter. She also likes to solve crime. When she and Addison have the chance to go to detective school, she hops in excitedly. Even before they’re done with the course, they get their first crime. Shoes are missing, but there are no clues to help our two detectives pursue the possible perpetrator. Can Emelina and Addison sove this uncanny crime?
“No Clues No Shoes” is a wonderful, lighthearted story for third grade on up to read independently, or younger children to read with an adult. It’s a charmingly written chapter book that will keep a young reader’s interest.
Emelina is an energetic, bubbly character who will engage a child’s attention. Addison, who is much quieter, enjoys her lively presence. “No Clues No Shoes” is a great story that introduces children to the fascinating world of detective work.
The Spy Game, written and illustrated by J.D. Holiday Eddie would love to have a puppy to play with. A puppy would pull on a rope, catch a ball and lick your face. But his Uncle brings Eddie an older dog named after a famous spy. What can you do with an old dog? It probably could not learn new tricks, and the only thing this dog did was stare. It’s what they find to do together that makes them the best of friends!
J.D. Holiday is the author and illustrator of the children’s picture books- JANOOSE THE GOOSE and THE SPY GAME, and the chapter book for 6 to 8 year olds, THE GREAT SNOWBALL ESCAPADE. The Spy Game is Fantastic
The Spy Game takes Eddie and Sidney, a large black older dog on an adventure from their first meeting. Although large, Sidney is a sweet dog. Eddie’s Uncle Reese brings him this dog (who he has rescued,) to Eddie who was reluctant at first, having his heart set on getting a puppy to play with. Sidney soon changes Eddie’s mind on that as they help Eddie’s friends find a missing cat and her kittens. I love the remarkable illustrations which bring the characters to life. Eddie, Sidney and Eddie’s friends, Dana and Joel are like ‘real’ kids you might know. I’ve read other stories by this author, and like J.D. Holiday’s other stories, The Spy Game is a wonderful story about friendship and love of a pet.
