So Very Wonderful!

Flynn and Derek were wonderful!!! I loved book 1 in the Nice Ink series and Ride or Die was even better than book 1!
Finally reading Flynn’s heartbreaking history totally explained his mysterious behavior from earlier. His guarded hope when he decided to give Derek a chance was so sweet and emotional. I loved Derek’s understanding and patience with Flynn! His devotion and determination to win over Flynn was so fun to read. The author did a great job with balancing fun, steam, chemistry, and family with this book. I’m so anxious to read the next book in the series!

14 year old Susan has no interest in going to Grandma and Grandpas for the Sabbath meal. She’d rather party with friends. However much to her surprise she loves hearing stories of her great Aunt Shoshana who fought for what she believed in. This is a neat short story that depicts the traditions of Jewish families and their faith. Great for anyone who wants to learn about their Hebrew heritage. 5 stars for this fast and enlightening read.

This collection of poetry examines love, as so much poetry tends to do, but the perspective here is unique. That romantic euphoria and devastating heartbreak are seen as two sides of the same emotion. Split up into three sections, the first and third are polar in their approach, either bubbling with affection or profound in examining what was lost or what was never had to begin with. The middle section offers a little bit of both, tying in experiences that are related to being in love or emotions that come along with a relationship or marriage. The poems themselves also cover a variety of forms, ranging from free verse to sonnets and concrete poetry to haiku. Containing over 100 poems, the poet's musings on an aspect of life that tends to be powerful no matter how it's experienced will emotionally reach readers of all ages.
This volume is singular in its focus but powerfully broad in its approach and form. By taking just the idea of love and then presenting it from both a positive and negative perspective, or by applying different poetic constructs to it, the results end up significantly varied and stay fresh. I loved this new addition to the Timekeepers series. It wasn't all fairytale driven, but touched on a critical, yet disturbing part of our history - WW2 and the Nazis. Again, the traveling group were a great cast of characters and interesting. I think Sharon has done an excellent job in building her characters. The scenes were action packed and you actually were afraid for the kids. I also liked the fact that there was some darkness to the story, not all "happyland". And she touched on other subjects that a lot of middle and young authors are afraid to.

I believe the youth of today will benefit from stories that outline our jaded past and teach them that not all is roses and whip cream. How else do we learn if we don't learn from our past?

I did enjoy it from beginning to end and would recommend this book for middle grade kids, and a few big kids as well! The history is welcomed and the story, however a reminder for is, is wonderful.

I found this book to be very interesting. It incorporates many fun topics like ghosts, murder, love story, time travel, and of course, Texas Rangers. The deeper story is that of love in healing. I could not put the story down and had to complete it to see how it wrapped up. The writing was such that I found myself fully engaged in the story and hoping that things were going to work out for the “good guys”. With the backdrop of murder, I found myself incredibly anxious through the entire work. This is a really good read. There were some unfulfilled characters and sub-plots that I look forward to hearing about in coming works.
