Emlyn Goode is a writer who also happens to be a witch. Or maybe it’s the other way around. She, and her creator Susan Solomon, live in upstate New York near Niagara Falls. In this outing, Emlyn attends a meeting of her writers' group and gets astrally transported to an area amusement park that’s being torn down to put up condos. She’s prompted in this trip by a new member of her group. When that new member turns up dead, Emlyn finds herself compelled to investigate. It doesn’t help that she’s a suspect and her new boyfriend, the assistant Chief of Police, has to treat her as a suspect.
The book is set around Halloween, and I happened to read it while waiting for trick-or-treaters at my house, so I found it especially timely. It’s a good cozy mystery. Emlyn needs to use her skills as a witch and good old gumshoe work to crack this case. Oh, and she’s helped by Elvira, the “talking” cat. I found this book very enjoyable.
