Della Street Jones is everyone’s ‘good little girl’ and is tired of the label. Munk Riley is the skinny little thief she shared her lunch with until the family left the Copper Basin. Riley, caught by the Jones family, is given a chance to redeem himself and earns a diesel mechanic certification. Munk wants to marry Della and have all the things denied him growing up the only child of an alcoholic mother.
Taking a job without telling her, causes a blow out between them. Embarrassed, Della takes a live-in position at a remote lodge. There she finds something that causes her to send an SOS to her family to get her out. Munk will do anything to get Della home. But does Della belong where everyone else thinks she does? Can they get out without waking the man who controls the underbelly of Alaska?

Della and Munk, the elders and a whole cast of characters living in Alaska was a real reading treat for me. The way in which Ms MacFarlane crafts her story by asking questions right at the beginning, swept me into the book and never stopped sweeping me along, as the story progressed.
This is a romance, however it is much more. Never having been to Alaska, I was grateful that such a good writer was able to open my imaginings about the place. Her detail descriptions, realistic dialogue, and ability to connect this reader with the characters, major and minor, is why I keep buying Mac Farlane's books. And I have a funny feeling there will be another instalment!
