Former Green Beret turned FBI Tactical Commander Joshua Wheeler is a Man Eater, trained as a killing machine for those jobs the government doesn’t acknowledge. Great follow up to Saber’s Vida. The story picks up several month later. Wheeler and Ford are settling into running the bar and have built a nice shared space. Have become like brothers. Ford has a lot of issues, while he doesn’t talk about them, Wheeler has been quietly helping him work through what he can. The members of the unit that are close see that and help him in his effort.
Wheeler meets Kimberly on a op when the school she is principle of is taken over by gunmen. She if former Marine,who had worked in intelligence, often classified. She has ties to both Raphael and Miguel Saber. They have an instant chemistry. Wheeler wants what Raphael and Cassidy have, and goes to her for some advise, which leads to a creation of a book, much like MC, Patches’s list. Which he shares with the men and women of the unit. Their feed back in invaluable.
Wheeler and Kimberly’s first date, leaded to a second at the Unit BBQ. The CIA has targeted Kimberly. They want her for an assets and it they can’t have her then no one can. She chooses to walk away, over bring Wheeler or the Unit into her troubles. Raphael isn’t going to let that happen. Their is betrayal high in their ranks that is tied to the CIA and Kimberly. The Unit is going to take the traitor down in a big and public way. They are going to make sure Wheeler and Kimberly get their chance at a happily ever after.
Loved Wheeler and Kim’s story. Their families are great. They they follow in Raphael and Cassidy’s foot steps when it comes to their wedding. Kimberly’s dad and the Saber brother’s mom, give everyone a big and happy surprise. The Golden Girls are up to their old tricks. The Unit has come up with some strict protocols in dealing with them. Their presence isn’t so over the top and dominating in Wheeler’s story. I would’t object if down the road, you hook Ford in with Wheeler and Kimberly, like you did with Ben, Kate and Danny. I think they would make a great triad. I think he just may need that kind of support.
The MC/Baxter/Princes/Protectors make some brief appearances. I love them. I like how that is handled. I like the idea of the sharing of intel, with each other while maintaining minimal contact. Their objectives are the same. Interesting that Perez has some ties with them. I can see them being tapped when Raphael’s hands are tied. Hope to continue to see some interaction with them. Maybe some small shared ops, to build trust.
Another great read. Fast paced,with just enough steamy. Can’t wait for the next book!
