A unique story about an innocent woman’s survival in brutal times
By Ramcy
I j ust finished reading this beautifully written novel. It takes you on a journey across the seas to the Barbary Coast in the early 19th Century, where slaves and goods are traded and sold throughout the Ottoman Empire. The ruler is cruel, concubines at his disposal, and pirates making the waters unsafe.
During this unforgiving time, our heroine has to survive kidnapping and the loss of her beloved father.
I give this novel a 4.5.
There were parts where the pace was a bit lacking, followed by chapters that kept you completely engrossed. The characters came to life throughout the story, and I fell in love with them.
Very well done, Josanna Thompson. I look forward to the second book.
